Cozy Up Your Christmas with Danish Hygge Candles!

There's nothing more heartwarming than the festive season in Denmark. The streets are alive with cheerful vibes, and the chilly air is perfumed with the sweet scent of burning candles. In fact, candles are essential part of Danish hygge culture during the holidays, bringing warmth and light to the long, dark winter nights.

The soft glow of candlelight creates an inviting atmosphere that's perfect for gathering with family and friends. Share stories, play games, or cozy up with a good book - whatever you choose, the warm glow of a candle will surely set the mood.

Get in the Holiday Spirit with a Stunning Advent Wreath

The traditional Advent wreath is made from evergreens and holds four candles. The wreath is hung or placed on a table. One candle is lit on the first advent Sunday and burnt 1/4 down. On the second Advent Sunday the first candle is lit again plus another one. The ritual continues until the last Sunday before Christmas where all four candles are lit. The first Advent Sunday this year is November 28, 2021.

Celebrate Christmas with Advent Candles: A Danish Tradition

Just like a tape measure a kalender lys (calendar candle) is marked with twenty-four lines and/or the numbers 1 to 24, one for each day in December counting down to Christmas eve (celebrated on the eve of December 24 in Denmark). Every morning at breakfast one section of the candle (corresponding to the date) is burnt away. Blowing the candle out before it burns down too far is a coveted task so family members take turns.

Bringing the Festive Glow to Your Home with Christmas Tree Candles

The Danish tradition of using lighted candles on the Christmas tree has been known to cause houses to burn down, but with the right precautions (attention to placement, close monitoring, and a bucket of water at the ready) it is a safe and beautiful tradition taking place in Danish homes every year on Christmas Eve.
